  • Director

    Dr Jane Beasley, Chartered Wastes Manager, PhD, BSc (Hons).

    Jane is an experienced and enthusiastic resource and environmental manager, professionally qualified within the waste and environmental sector. She has extensive knowledge and experience of strategic and technical waste, resource and environmental management issues. Jane has excellent communication skills, with experience of dealing with national and local government, national and local media, trade and technical press and high level stakeholders.

    Brief summary of expertise:

    • Strategy and Policy:

      development of waste strategies on a local level; national support through projects under the Defra call-off contract, and through secondment to the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, providing specialist advice in relation to recycling, waste prevention and wider waste management; carbon impact assessments of services, operations and strategies; LCA; research projects (including European case studies); articles and editorials; Visiting Professor in waste management strategy and policy at the University of Northampton; submission of written and verbal evidence to government select committees on waste management strategy and implementation.

    • Research:

      formal research qualification; extensive experience in conducting and supervising a range of qualitative and quantitative waste research projects; experienced in assessment, development, and project management of wide range of research activities.

    • Option Evaluation:

      extensive knowledge of collection, prevention, recycling and treatment options, including the application of technologies new to the field of waste management; KAT and WRATE modelling experience; commissioned during the Strategy Unit Review to look at best practice across Europe for MSW, and to review a strategy for wider wastes; contributed to technical reports and position papers.

    • Communications and Awareness Raising:

      preparation and evaluation of local authority communication plans and strategies; web site development (in terms of content and style); TV and radio experience; conference and workshop presentations; evaluation and development of communication strategies for Defra funded partnership projects on behalf of WRAP; Director of the NWAI.

    • Facilitation:

      experienced facilitator and Chair of numerous waste events with a variety of different stakeholders including decision-makers, regulators and community sectors.

    • Bid Assessment and Evaluation:

      experienced in reviewing applications for funding; member of the Assessment Panel for Defra’s Legacy fund, and was responsible for application assessment and funding decisions to the value of approximately £20 million; assessment of applications submitted to IWM (EB), evaluating scope, content, relevance and value for money.

    • Training and Quality Assurance:

      developed and delivered range of training courses to broad sector including local and national public and private stakeholders.

  • Research Manager

    Vicky Duff, MRes, BSc (Hons).

    Vicky Duff is a professionally qualified environmental consultant with a formal environmental research qualification. She is experienced in conducting qualitative and quantitative primary and secondary research projects in a wide range of environmental and resource management related areas on a local, regional and national level. She is experienced in generating, assimilating and interpreting large volumes of data (both qualitative and quantitative) and disseminating this in meaningful way to inform policy and strategy development. Having worked on various communication projects aimed at different sectors and target audiences, she is also skilled in tailoring materials to suit the needs of individual projects

    Brief summary of expertise:

    • Environmental Research:

      formal research qualification; experience in conducting and coordinating a range of qualitative and quantitative waste research projects; review and analysis of national support at local level including the surveying of participating councils and collation of performance indicator data to inform ongoing delivery of support programmes and development of methodology to progresses this; experienced in assessment and methodology development for range of research projects; liaising with local authorities to develop data dissemination processes; proficient in Geographic Information Systems.

    • Communications and Awareness Raising:

      Assessment and development of local authority communication plans and strategies; identification of best practice in delivery of communications strategies; evaluation and preparation of communication strategies for Defra funded Partnership Projects on behalf of WRAP.

    • Strategic Decision Making:

      Development of local authority waste strategies, including SEA and SA development, LCA, service and operation scenarios development and carbon impact and stakeholder communications.

    • Modelling:

      proficient in the use and application of WRATE, KAT and other modelling tools.

    • Waste Management:

      extensive experience in conducting and supervising a range of qualitative and quantitative waste research projects; experienced in assessment, development, and project management of wide range of waste related research activities; carbon management and climate change impact assessment in relation to waste management services and operation.
